After three years, the indie rock editors are back with new single “Heart Attack”. It’s their first single since Ivor Novello-winning composer Benjamin John Power, aka Blanck Mass, joined the band as a full-time member.
It’s also the first since their 2019 compilation Black Gold: Best of Editors.
“Heart Attack” is almost six minutes long and comes with 80s-style synths and a gothic touch. It is described as “a song of obsession, about getting lost in someone, a love song, a morbid love song” by singer Tom Smith, and is joined by a video created by the visual artist Felix Green, who used AI technology to produce a visual experience.
Blanck Mass previously worked with the band on their 2018 album Violence, and is also part of the drone duo Fuck Buttons. He said of joining the band, “Having worked with the band for five years now, joining Editors felt more like a natural progression than a decision to be made. We know we work well together, we’re creative on the same page, and we’re all very close friends.
Being part of a “creative conglomerate” is something I haven’t experienced in a while now, so being part of something that’s working like this again is both liberating and exciting in equal measures.
The Editors appear at various festivals across the UK and Europe over the summer:
05 – Birmingham, Sonic Wave @ Forum
05 – Raynham, wide sky and butterflies
28 – Portsmouth, victory party
