Serie A side shows ‘interest’ in loan of Rangers star
Serie A side Spezia Calcio have expressed interest in loaning out Rangers defender Nikola Katic as he recovers from a cruciate ligament injury last year.
The imposing 6-foot-4 defenseman, 24, is an Ibrox fan favorite but faces stiff competition to come back to the side after a long injury layoff.
The Croatian never kicked a ball for the club last season and watched his teammates get a legendary 55e Crown of the Scottish National League.
Now, as he ramps up his recovery ahead of the new season, there have been several rumors of a possible loan move to ensure Niko gets the minutes he needs to get his career back on track.
According to the reputed Croatian football news, Spezia is one of the teams that have expressed their “interest” in loaning the player to their club.

A stint in the Italian top flight would certainly be a great experience for the defender who has Connor Goldson, Filip Helander and Leon Balogun in front of him in the club’s pecking order.
Jack Simpson is also a new signing to the squad while the future of defenseman George Edmundson looks uncertain.
This could be a fix for Katic, but from the report it appears more than one club is planning a move for the center-half.
Not that the defender has his sights set elsewhere as Katic has announced he is ready to return as the Gers ramp up their pre-season preparations.
“I’m happy that this is all behind me and now I’m ready to go back with the team,” said Katic. [Rangers].
“I’m desperate to get back on the pitch, I wasted 12 months with my injury and now I’m so desperate to play and so excited.
“I give my all around the clock to be as ready as possible to help the team and to prove to the manager and the fans how ready I am.”
Katic remains a fan favorite of Ibrox and fans at the club have gone crazy over footage of him training at Auchenhowie last month.
