Rovers for Paton
Raith Rovers is interested in signing much-requested Stranraer forward Ruari Paton to help fill in the gaps left on the front line.
The 20-year-old scored ten goals in his 31 Ligue 2 appearances last season and caught the attention of full-time contenders including Falkirk, with the Rovers now set to fight the Bairns for the former child of the Hibs.
With forwards Daniel Armstrong, Gozie Ugwu and Manny Duku ready to spend this summer and the Starks Park squad planning to go exclusively full-time, Rovers boss John McGlynn has been keeping an eye on the Irishman as ‘he seeks to strengthen his attack options.
The forward, who can play across the frontline, is also reportedly on the radar of several other clubs in the Championship and Ligue 1, but is weighing options that would see him return to full-time football.
After helping Stranraer reach the Ligue 1 play-offs – where they were beaten by Dumbarton – Paton was offered a new deal with the now managerless side of Stair Park, with Stevie Farrell taking the reins of the Sons after Jim Duffy’s departure.
The Dubliner rose through the youth ranks at Easter Road club, but signed for East Kilbride, on the Lowland League side, after his release before moving to the Blues in League Two.
I loved my stay at Stranraer and they offered me terms, but I’m naturally ambitious.
I’ve always hoped to do well and scoring goals would give me a chance to improve further, so we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
